So, every one believes Asami is Amon? Good. Good for the show, good
for the writers who’ve obviously wanted this, and good to keep the
surprise intact. Except, it’s bad for viewers hoping to be proved right!
Trust me!
Okay, so maybe I’m over analyzing this, but hey! We’re only in Ep 7
of 12. Do you really think the very same writers, who kept viewers
waiting for 40 full episodes and only showed Fire Lord Ozai’s face in Book 3 in the earlier AVATAR: The Last Airbender, are going
to give away Amon so soon!? I mean, Asami premiered in Ep 4! She’s
obviously been planted there to divert everyone’s attention.
Ep 7 ‘The Aftermath’ even has Korra finding a powder-puff, in
the ladies’ powder room at the Sato mansion, with similar white powder
as seen on Amon’s face. She stops and frowns for a second, but it wasn't revealed why. Obvious link to Asami? Good you think so. That
is exactly what the writers want. Very soon, when the real Amon is
revealed, this powder-puff clue would be dismissed as a false alarm.
What more? Amon and Asami are both non-benders, or so they each claim
to be. They both have green eyes, nice observation; though maybe Amon’s
eye colour is still not clear. They’re both highly skilled in personal
defence, and this is evident when they fight. They’re both nearly the
same height, and have approximately the same facial structure. And
besides, Asami and Amon have never been seen (or should I say, shown) on screen together. So now you’re convinced Asami is Amon? Excellent! That is exactly what the writers want!
On the contrary, if Asami is indeed Amon, how could she depend so surely on a "scooter accident" to get her to intersect Mako!? What if Mako had jumped in the last minute? Or maybe taken another street? The reliance on the surety of the accident is silly. Which probably means it was indeed an accident; and that Asami isn't Amon.
So, what’s next? Is Amon going to be revealed as some long lost evil
twin (brother?) of Asami whose both parents were killed by benders, with
Asami being adopted by Sato, while the twin tricked Sato into helping
him while being anonymous, and is using Asami as well to get closer to
the Avatar? Maybe. Viewers are free to make up whatever theories they like!
Or maybe Amon is indeed Asami, and the writers had me plant this post to confuse everyone?! ;)

Actually I think the accident and falling in love with Mako are all real and are the only weaknesses of Asami/Amon, that's also explains why she follows Mako into the tunnel and saves them, B/C if they were all handed to Amon/Asami then she would not have any choice but to kill them (another explanation is that the moment she intervened was the moment her father discovered Mako and was possibly going to kill him).
It's important to note that by his theory her father isn't aware that she is Amon.
Personally I assumed from the start that Amon would be someone from the cast so I suspected Asami, and of course in the moment she told Korra she is martial arts specialist my suspicions grew much stronger.
I think that this theme of Ideology Vs. Love would be central in the ending of the series, and it's possible Asami would choose Mako over the Equalists or she won't and then Korra would end up with him.
It's hard to tell. however I'll bet that as a bit more romantic then "the last airbender" it would be the first option (Asami chooses Mako and Korra his little brother).
@Dan:
I like your take on the Asami/Amon theory! It actually makes sense that while Amon sees fire-benders (and other benders) as murderers of his parents, Asami sees in Mako that all fire-benders are not the same!
And I am with you on the 'Idealogy vs. Love' theme! Let's wait this one out!
Asami can drive a racecar with breakneck speed and accuracy, but not a scooter? And what powder are you talking about? Amon wears a mask.
It wasn't only about 'Asami knows martial arts'. It was also about the technique Asami used to disarmed his father henchman and the technique Amon used to subdue the winning team seemed came from the same martial arts.
If you remember, the creator of Avatar Legend of Aang were so specific about the base martial arts they used for each character and each nation.
If Asami was not Amon, then it must be someone who taught him Martial Arts.
I think it wasn't about who Amon was. It was about the strategy Amon will use even if it mean (s)he has to sacrifice h(is/er) own father.
Thank you so much, your software free VCF to xlsx converter helped me solve a task today. Good job.
Asami obviously isn't Amon because in episode 10 Asami is seen fighting equalists while Amon and Sato watch from above in an airship.
